In view of this, the Congress of the U.S., in 1876, recommended to state and county authorities the importance and necessity of collecting and preserving the histories and biographies of their prominent men and useful citizens. The publisher of this work compiled and published the first cyclopedia of biographies that was ever issued in Pennsylvania. Covers two important western Pennsylvania counties.

history of the old kittanning cemetery, north jefferson street, kittanning, pennsylvania, 1811-1960 Once located on North Jefferson Street, this cemetery no longer exists. Only a few stones remain, now located in part of the new Kittanning Cemetery on Troy Hill. If there were any official records of burial here, they also no longer exist. A multitude of genealogical resources were used to prepare this complete list of burials such as a published legal notice of "Intent to Move" which lists interments. These 334 interments provide a great deal of information such as names of parents and spouse, occupations, residences, and more as available.
