| This book contains over five hundred family letters written between 1810 and 1940. The description of the life of the Lutheran minister Reverend Jacob Zimmerman was extracted from old German script letters handed down in the family or purchased by John Zimmerman, the great grandson of Jacob. The first 15 pages of the work pertain to the family genealogy of Zimmerman/ Carpenter in Pennsylvania. A letter written in 1857 by Benjamin Zimmerman to his brother Daniel identifies the birth place of their grandfather, Henrich Zimmerman of Lutzelstein in the Alsace region, who is the earliest identifiable ancestor of Reverend Jacob Zimmerman. The contents of the book includes ancestor history and the arrival of the family on the ship “Neptune” in 1751; the early years in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; the professional life of Reverend Jacob Zimmerman; the Civil War years, his marriage to Sarah Jane Caldwell and ends in the final years of his life and service to the Lutheran Church. - Family Genealogy - Family Genealogy - Zimmerman |
