Contains such miscellany as a list of persons who contributed to the purchase of Monmouth from the Indians, mostly men from Rhode Island and Long Island; list of officers and soldiers from old Monmouth who served in the Revolutionary War. Also soldiers who fought in the Civil War. 80-page Genealogical Record section (alphabetical order by family name) of the first settlers of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The author was a well-regarded man of his time, a member of the New Jersey state legislature and a Speaker of the House. He was appointed to a position in the U.S. Treasury Department where he served for five years.
