| This history begins with an introduction to the Pennsylvania Experiment involving early settlements, religious persecution and turmoil, and the Moravian pioneers and their Gospel of Peace. Chapters Two and Three present the historical events leading to the settlement of Bethlehem in 1741 with accounts of the men who settled the area; where they came from, what they believed in and what they were trying to accomplish. Sixteen more chapters follow detailing the progress and conflicts of 150 years of Bethlehem history. Portraits of people and places, maps and both subject and name indices round out this extensive history. The book is presented as graphic images, so the user sees the work just as it was originally published. It is intended to look and function very much like a “real” book. There is no electronic index, and there is no electronic text to search. However, numerous electronic bookmarks have been added which make it easy to move through the book. Image numers will match the page numbers for all of the main text, as well as the index.
